INSTALLATION TIPS

DESIGNER WRAP FILM

project x60 Designer Wrap Film offers an extremely high-quality finish because of its polymeric construction. To ensure the quality is retained it is recommended to apply minimal stretch (15% or less) and even less for recessed areas. Also, avoid excessive tension on corners, edges, and overlaps to minimize the risk of failure, lifting, or adhesion separation. For best results maintain a post heat temperature of 45-55° celsius on main panels, and as high as 85-95° celsius for recessed areas, edges, overlaps, and corners. NOTE: Heat will activate the adhesive, so take care to ensure glue lines are avoided! Also, be careful to not burn the material or excessive heating as this may cause scratches, gloss loss, or for the air channels to be more noticeable.

Scratching the film during installation is possible, so ensure you are using a lubricant, with a clean, soft squeegee. Scratches are more likely to happen when the film is hot, so be cautious while heating and squeegeeing.

Wax will help eliminate small scratches if they do happen. Exposure to direct sunlight or a bit of gentle post-heat will also help lessen the appearance of scratches.

CARBON FIBRE VINYL

Black Carbon Fibre Vinyl is not recommended for full vehicle wraps, but rather accents and imitation carbon pieces. Our film is made using a dual-layer laminate, so because of this we recommend ensuring the vinyl is wrapped further around panels to keep water from entering into the layers (if water does manage to get in and creates a swirl mark, simply let the film dry and it will return to its normal state. We also do not recommend overstretching the material during installation to avoid weakening or tearing the laminate. Overlapping is also not recommended, but if overlapping material is necessary, it is recommended to add painter’s tape to prevent direct contact between the two vinyl cuts. For carbon fibre, the corners and edges are key. Please ensure to wrap around as far as possible to avoid exposing the edges to the environment.

COLOURED PPF

project x60 Coloured PPF is wet-apply and self-healing with a nano-ceramic coating. It is made using thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), with a colour layer added. So for that reason you will find it to be more pliable than our wrap film (or other high-gloss calendered vinyls), but, because of the colour layer, it’s still not quite as pliable as regular PPF. And definitely not as stretchy as cast films.

project x60 Coloured PPF is a low tack film and the adhesive achieves full adhesion after 48 hours. So while that offers many advantages, it is important to build in some time to let the film dry, especially around corners and recesses. To ensure edges and recessed areas go smoothly, clean the areas thoroughly and allow for dry time prior to finishing edges, instead of forcing them down while wet. If you let them dry a bit, they will grab and there will be no need for any adhesive promoter. Tho, some shops still like to use adhesion promoter or heat to speed up the adhesion. Using a torch instead of a heat gun is one way to adhere the edges while finishing. Also, a note with the recessed areas; treat the film like vinyl; glass it out and feed recessed areas first to mitigate tension, squeegee down and then do the flat stuff after!

In the end, you’re left with an incredible wrap job that has a ridiculous amount of depth and clarity! Plus, a finish that will last and protect the vehicle's paint while doing it.
